Client: Blythswood Square Hotel, Glasgow
Interior Designer: Graven Images
Modus worked with Graven Images to produce a range of bespoke furniture for this five star boutique hotel in Glasgow.
Located in the centre of Glasgow, the building, which dates back to 1823, was previously the home of the Royal Scottish Automobile Club. Under the guidance of Graven Images the building has been restored into a five star hotel and spa with 100 guest rooms including a penthouse with its own private lift and terrace area.
Modus worked alongside Graven images to produce a range of furniture from dining and lounge chairs, sofas and bar stools, coffee and bar tables, to conference room furniture and a 5m long parquet topped private dining table. All upholstery was upholstered in Harris Tweed, the first time that the fabric had been used on a commercial furniture project since it was used on the QE2, including the signature Blythswood chair, an organic chair produced using a GRP frame and upholstered in tweed with a buttoning detail and stained oak legs.
In total over 40 different designs of furniture were produced in under a six month period. All 100 rooms, public spaces, bars, restaurant and spa were designed by Graven images and furnished by Modus.
Within months of opening, Blythswood Square was listed in the Condenast hot list 2010 as well as being awarded Scottish hotel of the year.
